4 th Battalion, Royal Regiment of AUSTRALIA, OTHER SPECIAL FORCES AUSTRALIAN




The 4 th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (Commando) or 4 RAR (Cdo) is the Acting Special Forces Unit of Australia. The unit is the Special Operations Command Australian Army (SOCOMD).
The unit was formed in 1955 and served as a conventional infantry unit. In 1973 the 4 RAR RAR was attached to 2, but after the deployment of the unit in Rwanda in 1994 the Australian Government decided to separate new units for additional infantry battalion.











On 1 February 1995, the Royal Australian Regiment Battalion 2do/4to were separated. The 4 th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment was sent at Holsworthy in western Sydney. In October 1996 the Australian Army study the need to turn it into a battalion command full-time within the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to supplement and give more capacity to drive the SASR Special Operations. On February 1, 1997 the battalion was again designated as the 4 th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (Commando) or 4 RAR (Cdo).
In November 1999, 4 RAR (Cdo) become operational and was sent for peacekeeping operations in Timor Oriental.De April to October 2001, 4 RAR (Cdo) were deployed in East Timor, the unit was deployed as a conventional light infantry battalion for the mission. Of back to Australia, the battalion resumed its Special Operations training.








Since 2002 the unit was also designated as a second Tactical Assault Team (GAT), known as TAG East. This unit is responsible for managing anti-terrorist operations in the East Coast of Australia, while the West TAG (SASR) would be responsible for anti-terrorist actions on the west coast
In April 2003, 4 RAR (Cdo) were deployed to Iraq to participate in Operation Enduring Freedom, conducted by the U.S.



primary mission: large-scale operations with greater versatility and capacity than other units of the Australian Defence Force in support of national interests of Australia.

ORGANIZATION
The 4th Battalion, has done an incredible job improvement and transformation of the unit. In two years the unit took a turn from a light infantry battalion in a unit of special forces first-class.
