Einsatzkommando COBRA, formerly known as GEK (Gendarmerieeinsatzkommando) was formed in 1978, mainly to protect Jewish immigrants who were using Austria as a transit route to Israel, protecting them from the attacks of radical Palestinian groups in response to the attack athletes at Munich Olympics 1972 that were massacred. Its main office is in Wiener Neustadt, with offices in Graz, Linz and Innsbruck.
